Compulsory Excess vs Voluntary Deductible. The excess / deductible amount that is deducted from every admissible OD claim. — DigiSurvey.
What it covers
The excess / deductible amount that is deducted from every admissible OD claim. Compulsory excess is prescribed by IRDAI based on vehicle class / cc, applies to every claim and is non-negotiable. Voluntary deductible is an additional amount the insured opts for at inception, in exchange for an OD premium discount.

Deduct BOTH. Compulsory: typical slabs — Private car ≤1500 cc: ₹1,000; >1500 cc: ₹2,000; two-wheeler: ₹100; commercial vehicle: ₹500 to ₹1,500 as per cc. Voluntary: whatever is printed on the schedule (₹2,500 / ₹5,000 / ₹7,500 / ₹15,000). Do NOT apply voluntary deductible if the loss is TL — only compulsory applies on TL. One excess per EVENT, not per part. Even with Nil-Dep in force, excess is still deducted.
